KHASHM AL GERBA REST HOUSE

A rest house on one floor at the Khashm Al Qirba Dam site to serve
visitors and guests of the National Electricity Company. The project
consists of 3 VIP rooms, six double rooms, a reception hall, a meeting
room, an interior, a cafeteria and other facilities.
The project is located in a remote area near the dam site in a rural
area in a subtropical region. The allocated budget is limited, and the
region suffers from a shortage of building materials and labor.
Therefore, the design is based on a simple structural system of locally
manufactured brick walls and double-layer roofs for the heavy rainy
season, which is changed during construction to a flat concrete roof,
due to unavailability of materials.
The design made the most of natural resources for natural ventilation
and daylight to reduce reliance on air conditioning and power. This is
achieved through the orientation of the building and the use of wall
and roof materials to improve the thermal performance of the
envelope, in addition to the use of layout.
With a humidifier in each balcony room for its cooling effect. The large
lawn area combined with native plants helps filter rainwater in the
heavy rainy season.
